2012 Season Reflections and Regrets

Hey guys,

Sorry I haven’t written in a while. I hope you had a Happy New Year!

As you can probably imagine, we’re very disappointed that we didn’t make it to the playoffs. Obviously that’s a goal that we all strive for when we start the season, and I can assure you that we’re committed to coming back next year and doing whatever it takes to make sure we don’t let our amazing fans down again.

I did some reflecting on the last game of the regular season, against the Eagles. I think we came out and used the two losses from the games before as motivation to make sure that we not only had a great week of practice and preparation, but that we transferred that to the playing field. We really wanted to show people that we could still be a competitive, fundamentally sound football team because after the last two losses, people understandably doubted us.

It is a beautiful thing to see when things clicked and what we’re capable of doing, and we were encouraged that we at least gave ourselves a chance to be in the playoffs. Obviously, once we found out that Detroit lost, the mood dampened a bit, but we realize that we had our chances and can’t rely on others. Had we won one more game, made one more play, we might still be playing this month!

I also wanted to say what an honor it was to play in front of the students, teachers, and staff of Sandy Hook Elementary School at our last game. We were humbled that they came down to see us, and we were determined to make sure to put smiles on their faces. Hopefully we accomplished that.

We are extremely excited about building on that last game for next year. I think most of my teammates are planning to rest for a couple of weeks so our bodies can heal, and then we’re going to get right back into training and preparing for next season because we know where we belong — in the playoffs!

I think when we come back we’re going to jump right into some self-study on what we can do to improve ourselves technique wise to make our team better so that we’re ready for the challenges of our 2013 schedule.

As I was working on this blog entry, I got word about being named to the USA Football’s 2012 All-Fundamentals Team. I’m extremely humbled to have been recognized by such a prestigious voting panel, and I am especially proud to represent the Giants on the list of players.

Before I go, I wanted to thank everyone for checking out my blog. I’m planning to stay in touch with you guys. In a few days, I’m going to post an entry dedicated to the fan questions I received over the last few weeks. If you have a question you’d like to ask me, send it to comments@henryhynoski45.com or post a comment below for me.

I’m also going to be having some contests for more signed Hyno merchandise coming up this off-season, so be sure you keep in touch – you can follow me on Twitter @HenryHynoski for updates!

Thanks for all your support this past season. Speaking for myself, I promise to come back a better player and to do my part in 2013 to make sure that this time next year, we’re talking about a Giants playoff run!

Talk to you again soon!
