Bad Wolf
Bad Wolf Looks like the big, bad wolf is stopping for a pint. Deutscher Titel. It's like the big bad wolf huffed and puffed or something.

The translation is skilful, I only wish I had the opportunity to read the fifth novel to eliminate the gaps in the development of Pia and Oliver's character.

Im not saying that I cant analyse a novel like this one you can analyse every text , I just think at times some light reading is needed.

Big Bad Wolf tells the story of a crime that happened on the river Main near Frankfurt. Investigators Pia Kirchhoff and Oliver von Bodenstein are back to investigate the crime, as the case progresses they find it taking them into a pit of evil and cruelty in the midst of a middle class utopia.

I am trying to make an effort to read more translated fiction; I loved Snow White Must Die which is book four in the series but only the first one to be translated into English.

That is what fascinated me but Big Bad Wolf is just another crime novel. There are some decent moments in Big Bad Wolf, some unexpected twists but I wanted more.

The novel is darker than most popular crime novels but keeps to the standard formula. One thing I did find difficult about this novel was the amount of view points, making it difficult at times to understand what was going on but this is an acceptable method for building suspense.

Nov 03, Paromjit rated it it was amazing Shelves: crime-fiction. This is a novel that uncovers the ugly and depraved practices of child abuse and paedophilia amongst the well heeled and politically powerful.

It is organised as an international business on an industrial scale. The story takes a little time to really take off, but that is because several pieces of the plot are laid out to follow throughout the novel.

The recurring characters of Pia and Oliver, from Snow White Must Die, are investigating the murder of a young horrifically abused young girl dumped This is a novel that uncovers the ugly and depraved practices of child abuse and paedophilia amongst the well heeled and politically powerful.

The recurring characters of Pia and Oliver, from Snow White Must Die, are investigating the murder of a young horrifically abused young girl dumped in the river.

More bodies and torture follow as a group of very powerful men endeavour to stay undetected and continue their evil practices.

For Pia, events turn extremely personal near the end. A well researched and intricately plotted story about the evil that exists in society and how deeply entrenched it is.

This is the second book, I have read by the author and I can thoroughly recommend it. This is a book I was supposed to receive as an ARC by a crime reading club but somehow got lost in the mail, which annoyed me an awefull lot.

So when I found an English copy in the American bookstore in Amsterdam in bargain bin I hesitated not at all. This German female writer has begun as a self-published writer and she gradually build up popularity and being published due to her skillful writing.

In the Dutch language she had 3 books translated and this one in English book 6 is book 6 with This is a book I was supposed to receive as an ARC by a crime reading club but somehow got lost in the mail, which annoyed me an awefull lot.

In the Dutch language she had 3 books translated and this one in English book 6 is book 6 with one other been published which is NR.

This kinda reeks of a Jo Nesbo scenario where the books have been published in English out of order. Anyhow the two lead characters being police officers get involved in the murder of a young girl whose body gets found in the river.

And like a similar case 10 years earlier there a no clues at all to continue a case on. However at the same time some big shot TV personality takes on a certain subject for her real life talk show and finds herself and some other people involved in serious trouble and rather sadist bodily harm.

It is then we find out that the two cases seem to fit together and the cops find out a lot more than they actually counted on.

Which is a compliment as it is brilliant television. The book kept me hooked easily and all the personal development was done in such a way that any first time reader could easily follow the story lines.

The subject as dark as it is was written about in a sharp and interesting way. A really well written book that kept me interested until the end.

I most certainly will read more of this writer, I have one other book of this writer lying around waiting to be read.

Well worth your time. The mailman who lost my ARC did at the very least get a very decent read out of it.

And while I prefer my books reaching me it is somewhat nice to know that the occasional book gets nicked. I haven't read any books of Nele before, and I had no expectations.

So it wasn't a disappointment. I liked the main characters and some of scenes, especially with the kids. I disliked the extensive description of the gruesome crimes and I think the book could have been or so shorter.

This all adds up to three stars for this and in my book. I'll try to keep this short and sweet. The author points at suspicious character way too obviously and takes lazy storytelling choices.

The narrative is convoluted and contains too many useless characters who have for sole purpose to wrench emotion out of the reader.

The many strands of the story come together very clumsily. I'm not comfortable being overly critical of I'll try to keep this short and sweet.

I'm not comfortable being overly critical of a novel, but I'm not comfortable telling you some of you might enjoy this either.

There are better police procedurals. There are better mysteries. There are better novels. Skip this one. Dec 01, Carol rated it really liked it.

The dress was a real dirndl, with a short skirt and apron. Papa had plaited her hair into two braids, and she really looked exactly like Little Red Riding Hood in her fairy-tale book.

He always brought presentsit was a secret that she and Papa shared, because he never brought anything for the others. Only for her.

She was his favorite. The door opened, and she uttered a frightened cry when she saw the wolf. But then she had to laugh. It wasn't a real wolf after all; it was only Papa, who had put on a costume.

How lovely it was that she was the only one to share this secret with Papa. Too bad she could never remember anything afterward.

On a hot June day, the body of a sixteen-year-old girl washes up on a riverbank outside of Frankfurt.

She has been brutally murdered and shows signs of long-term abuse, but no one comes forward with any information as to her identity.

Even weeks later, the local police have not been able to find out who she is. Then a new case comes in: A popular television host is attacked, raped, and locked in the trunk of her own car.

She survives, barely, and is able to supply only vague hints to the police, having to do with her recent investigations into an organization whose members are from the highest echelons of society, and the potential uncovering of a shocking history they'd prefer to keep from the public eye.

As the two cases collide, Inspectors Pia Kirchhoff and Oliver von Bodenstein dig deep into the past and underneath the veneer of bourgeois society to come up against a terrible secret that is about to impact their personal lives as well.

It is almost too late for a person very close to Pia before she and Oliver finally track down the big bad wolf.

My Thoughts: A word of warning: This book deals with one of the most disgusting of crimes, child molestation, and how frequently it occurs.

The book has a slow beginning but it's not too far into it that it really picks up speed and you find that you just can't put it down.

TV : Last of the Time Lords. TV : Journey's End. Rose whispered the words "Bad Wolf" to a dying Donna Noble in an alternate universe.

TV : The Stolen Earth. Also, all of Torchwood 's records on file of the Doctor's companions were reportedly destroyed or corrupted in some way by a virus known as the " Bad Wolf virus ".

TV : The Day of the Doctor. When the consciousness of the Moment took form, it selected the form of Rose Tyler as the Bad Wolf entity.

When the War Doctor commented that he could kiss her for giving him a way out of the dual-genocide he was prepared to commit, she remarked, " That's definitely gonna happen.

The last book i read by jo raven is Caveman. And i was disappointed with that. So when i got my hand on Bad WOlf audiobook, i try to be optimist.

The book indeed deliver all of that jo raven signature story. Broken hero and a heroine to save him. Although the beginning of the story where Jarred proposition Gigi makes me cringe in disgust.

However the middle of the book when Jarred shows his vulnarability, i swoon back in. Needless to say, this book giving me back my fan girling for jo raven.

Bad Wolf was a stand-alone by Jo Raven. Although not my first book by the author, Raven was a recent new author to me.

Garret and Gigi met as teenagers. They had an unusual friendship until Gigi moved away. Fast forward three years and they met again.

Raven quickly highlighted the past before diving into the present. And it began with a mysterious vibe. We knew there were secrets and danger but werent privy to the details until the author began to slowly unravel the layers.

And it moved slowly. I craved a swifter storyline. The circumstances were so dire for Garrett that I struggled reading it.

I wanted something good. He was so strong, but he let him self be walked on and put down. It was his choice. Then simultaneously two souls reconnected with a common theme but on opposite sides.

I desired more happiness and good. In the end, I liked Garrett and where he ended up. He has so much promise that it needs a follow up novella in order to make the more story complete.

Im sorry but I just cant do it anymore! I refuse to pick up another book by Jo Raven until she puts out content that is perfectly edited, easy to read and not confusing AF.

She can easily be a 5 star author if she just takes the extra steps and effort to get there. View 1 comment.

Jo Raven never fails to twist her readers up with emotion and desires over her trouble bad boys so it was not a surprise to me that I fell so immediately and devastatingly hard for Jarett.

Because I had already met Gigi in previous books, I couldn't wait to get to know this girl that is full of sunshine and sass in equal doses and happens to be just what the dark and broody Jarett needs to live a better life and experience love.

It wasn't long and I was so enthralled with Bad Wolf and its Jo Raven never fails to twist her readers up with emotion and desires over her trouble bad boys so it was not a surprise to me that I fell so immediately and devastatingly hard for Jarett.

It wasn't long and I was so enthralled with Bad Wolf and its fictional world full of gangs, deception, unrequited love, and heat! I was entertained while burning up with desire and wrapped up in nail biting suspense from the moment their story began!

Jarett is a guy who has been down on his luck from day one. From the moment he would find a family that would love him, something bad would happen and he would be back to where he started with a shortage of love and opportunities.

Between his broody nature, his fierce loyalty to those he loved, his dirty mouth, and his delicious body, I found myself wanting to cuddle the hell out of him and my mind going to very naughty places.

Jo Raven's heroes often illicit those two responses in me and stay with me long after their story is told. Must be why I am such a die hard fan of hers!

Augusta or Gigi as everyone calls her is a girl who has lived through her fair share of a painful past but has a family who loves her and chooses to live on the sunny side of life.

The only dark cloud that she still often thinks about in her world from a couple of years back is Jarett..

So when she happens upon a more sullen and dark version of Jarett, she finds herself scared to get to know him and to intrigued to turn away.

After meeting the handsome inked bad boy, who could blame her? There wasn't anything that I didn't absolutely adore about this heroine who puts her heart on the line and looks deep below the surface to see who Jarett really is.

She may seem all giggly and cute but she is fierce and sexy in her own way and isn't going to let Jarett forget it! Jo Raven delivers a suspenseful and sexy read that keeps your heart pounding and melting with every page.

You just never know what you are going to experience in the next chapter with these amazingly vivid characters, they could be tangled in the sheets, trying to run away from their feelings, or seconds away from danger.

I highly recommend Bad Wolf for a romance that offers the steam and the excitement. Jo Raven stories never cease to amaze me and draw me into a new world that I never want to leave and that I want to return to again and again.

I don't know how many times I have started, deleted and then started again to write this review. I haven't read a good Jo Raven book since Ink Babies.

In some ways Bad Wolf reminded me of bits of different previous characters. Though I honestly don't know if I truly liked this book or just read it because it was Jo Raven.

This is probably going to be one of my worst written reviews of the year. I liked Jarett's character, with I don't know how many times I have started, deleted and then started again to write this review.

I just don't know if I liked her or not. To be honest when I first started reading, I wondered where the hell this story was going.

There was definitely a slow burn which I kind of enjoyed. But still something was missing for me personally. I can't put my finger on it and hate that I can't figure out what is it.

Awe Rett I just love Jo Ravens tortured heroes and Jarett oh dear, I just wanted to hug him at times and make it all better. Jarett or Rett has been so unfortunate in life, first he loses his parents, goes into foster care then when he finally has a home he loses his foster dad too who was a police officer and got caught up in a shootout.

The guy has one misfortune after another. Gigi is the sister of Octavia, so if you have read previous books in this series you would have caught glimpses of Awe Rett In his human form, Badwolf has dark hair, slightly graying and dark yellow eyes.

In his wolf form, he has gray fur and darker patches of fur on his hands and collarbone area. His appearance is properly different in the Shannon Hale books , and probably different from Shannon Hale 's, books appearance in the Suzanne Selfors books.

It goes against his and Red's story for them to fall in love, but they did. They kept their marriage a secret and as a result, no one knows that Cerise is Badwolf's daughter.

Under his name, Ramona Badwolf is his daughter and will be the Big Bad Wolf, or as the Shannon Hale books calls, Big Badwolf, but since where she stands in the destiny conflict is still unknown, it is unknown if she doesn't want to follow her father's destiny - as in, if she's a Rebel.

Rose wakes up on the floor of a spaceship and is horrified to see a Dalek approaching her. The Doctor and Jack discover a signal coming from the station that is hiding something at the edge of the solar system.

They cancel the signal and reveal a fleet of Dalek spaceships. The Daleks open a communication channel to the Doctor, threatening to kill Rose if he interferes.

The Doctor refuses to back down and vows to rescue Rose and wipe out the Daleks. The term "Bad Wolf" appears in every episode of the first series except for "Rose" and the two-part stories which only have one explicit reference between the two episodes.

A working title for the episode was "Gameshow World". Prior to this, the episode was referred to in promotional literature as "The Parting of the Ways Part 1 ", with "Part 2" eventually becoming simply " The Parting of the Ways ".

The idea had come from his trip to New York City for the launch of the American version of Queer as Folk , where he had seen "a vast screen in Times Square with a gigantic Anne Robinson blasting us tiny mortals with her voice" - This screen was promoting the American Version of The Weakest Link.

The production team originally intended to show Jack's naked buttocks on screen. The scene was shot, but the BBC 's editorial policy department stepped in and vetoed it, the only time they over-ruled the production team during the series.

Russell T Davies mentioned that the "arc word" for the subsequent series was mentioned in this series, as well as being an anagram.

In , a spin-off series titled Torchwood began, set in modern-day Cardiff and involving a team investigating paranormal and alien incidents, and featuring John Barrowman reprising his role of Captain Jack Harkness.

Nisha Nayar, the actress cast as the Female Programmer in this episode, previously appeared as one of the uncredited 'Red Kang' extras in the classic series story Paradise Towers.

However this might be a cover up since his daughters destinies would result in Cerise being eaten by her sister and Ramona being killed in order to save her life.
